Social Media Marketing: An Overview

Social Media Marketing

What is social media marketing?

Marketing any products or services through social media platforms can be defined as social media marketing. Commonly used social media platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin & Twitter. Social media enables a business to engage with their customers as well as reach to other users who are likely to become new customers.

Why businesses need social media marketing?

As time moves on technology rises and businesses need to update with technology. Let us take a look at the evolution of marketing over a century.

At first, we only had the printing press where the content is published on a piece of paper and delivered to people in the form of newspaper, notice & poster.

After the invention of the radio which became the platform of information and entertainment for people so the advertisers use it for promotion.

And then television came into existence where people can enjoy the visual treat, therefore, businesses can run an advertisement when people watch their favourite programs on TV.

Finally, we are in a digital era where everything on earth can be accessed with the fingertip. Most people spend more time on social media now than any other medium. So businesses can leverage it to convey their message to their potential customers.

Facebook Marketing

Benefits

Detailed Targeting: In social media marketing we can define our target audience and reach the right audience, unlike traditional marketing where we cannot detail the targets based on their demographic and psychographics.

Audience Insights: We get clear insights about the audience here which includes their interest, job, relationship status etc which helps in planning for the content that they like to see.

Performance Metrics: There are a lot of metrics such as cost per click, cost per conversion, cost per impression etc to measure the performance of the campaign which helps to track the sales and conversion to make decisions.

Low Cost: Traditional outbound marketing like a billboard advertisement, Notice & TV advertisement can only have a wide target so it requires huge capital to invest so the cost per conversion could be high. But here we can have a narrow target and we can directly reach them with low cost per conversion. We can start with an initial budget as low as ₹100.

Introduction To Facebook Marketing

Facebook is the most popular social media platform which is used by more than 65% of the world’s total population with 5 Billion users across the world.

Facebook has a wide range of users of each age category from under 18 to above 65.

Facebook has a lot of data about users based on their demographics and behaviours. Therefore we can set the targets based on the data of current customers and create a lookalike audience who are highly likely to become the future customers.
